My Male Order List – What I wanted.
I sat down and wrote a shopping list of what I wanted him to be.
I didn’t want Mr Perfect, just someone rightly suited to me.
I wanted someone caring, not afraid to show his love,
I wanted someone who had some focus on God above.
Someone who took great pride in himself and me by his side,
Who never hid his thoughts and feelings and in me would confide.
I didn’t want a sloucher who thought I was born to be his slave,
I wanted a man to whom the macho hype he’d waive.
I wanted someone who’d not just be a father but a dad
To any children that with God’s blessings, I had.
A man who’d set a great example for all his peers to see;
A man who cherished his family- as it’s meant to be.
I wanted someone ambitious and keen to stand on his own feet
Who’d only reap what he sowed and not another’s harvest deplete.
Although I sought such calibre and character in one man,
I had to ensure that I too was a well worthy woman
By achieving in myself the dreams I had for him,
So that my prayers would be heard as acts of faith not whim.
I shared my dreams with others who laughed thought I’d gone soft,
But I still held out amidst the voices that scoffed.
I wouldn’t let anyone deflate nor quench my flame of hope,
I’d keep focused and the powers of positive thoughts envelope.
Now I stand before you under the umbrella of God’s grace
To give account for the big grin I have plastered on my face.
I have the man I dreamed of, tailored to my list,
I didn’t go hunting; I developed me that’s the gist.
So you out there, who’s listening, don’t kiss your teeth in despair,
Just because your body clock’s racing, there’s no point in fear.
Maybe you’ve got one too many children running round your feet
And doubt that faced with such odds who’d you ever meet;
Change yourself with in and keep focused on your goal
Coz God’s blessings don’t cease the second you get old.
Don’t compromise your standards by settling for second best.
Write your list, put it to God – put him to the test.
It worked for me, and many before, it will work for you.
Just be patient, be focused, and don’t neglect to do,
The necessary work on yourself so your qualities shine true and through,
Because yesterday the opportunity was for another, today yours is due.
